Here is an important message from Christine McNew at the TSLAC.

Amanda

Dear Children's Librarians,

If you have not yet placed your order for 2005 Texas Reading Club (TRC)
materials, there is still time to do so. Please go to
www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/forms/order.html and enter your
library's contact information and the quantities of posters, manuals,
bookmarks, certificates, and reading logs that you need. Orders are due by
Oct. 1, 2004.

Since August 2004, many libraries have placed orders. The Texas State
Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) has entered these orders into an
Excel Spreadsheet, which has been uploaded onto the web at
www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/orderconfirm.html. Please check the
spreadsheet to make sure that your library's order is correct. The date
that the spreadsheet was last updated is at the top of the confirmation
instruction page. If you placed an order prior to this date, AND if you do
not find the name of your library on the spreadsheet, then TSLAC has not
received your order. Please place a new order online at
www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/forms/order.html.

When ordering, please estimate the quantity of each item that you will need
based on your 2004 TRC participation. As a guideline, TSLAC recommends that
libraries order items in the following quantities.

Reading Club Manual: Please order no more than two per library building.
The 2005 TRC manual will be sent to on CD-ROM. All chapters will be
printable. It will contain color artwork, clip-art, and craft illustrations
and patterns that are downloadable and printable. You may cut and paste the
text, clip art, and craft patterns and illustrations for use in flyers,
brochures, bookmarks, and other promotional items and incentives. You may
also upload the artwork onto your library's web site.

Posters and Mini-Posters: Use the posters (size 17" x 22") in the library
and display the mini-posters (size 11.5" x 15.5") at schools, organizations,
and businesses in your community. The slogan is printed in English and
Spanish. There is space on the posters to add your library's name and
address or other local information. Please order the large posters for use
in your library building only. You may order sufficient miniposters to
place them in the libraries of the schools you serve. We cannot supply
enough posters or mini-posters to put one in each classroom or to give as
prizes to Reading Club participants. If you have questions about the use of
posters, please call Christine McNew at (512) 463-6623.

Please remember to order the NUMBER OF PACKAGES of bookmarks, certificates,
and title or time reading logs that you will need. Each package contains
100 items. For example, if you will need 500 certificates, please order 5
packages.

Bookmarks: For use in conjunction with school visits or as incentives to
bring children into the library. The bookmark's reverse side is blank for
your use. Order one per child.

A Choice of Two Reading Logs: Since some children want to keep track of the
books they read and some like to keep track of the time they spend reading,
you may order logs that provide space for titles OR logs that keep track of
time. Black and white masters are included in the clip art section of the
manual if you prefer to print custom reading logs.

Certificates: The certificate will remind each child of their reading
adventures long after the program ends. Many libraries present certificates
at a special celebration or award them individually when each child has
completed the reading club.

Texas Reading Club manuals will be mailed by January 31, 2005. The posters,
certificates, bookmarks, and reading logs will be mailed to libraries
throughout the State by March 31, 2005.

Also, please complete your Evaluation Form for the 2004 TRC at
www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/forms/eval.html if you have not already
done so.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

Christine McNew
