Subject: CDL-Directory Scams

In the eternal scam involving phone calls "verifying" mailing addresses and then billing libraries: the latest name we have had is "UPA: United Publications of America". This is, naturally, not any of the many groups and companies that use the same initials. As with all the other similar scams, they attempt to get a confirmation of address, and this one does ask if the individual is authorized to approve the purchase. The nature of the call can easily confuse anyone, so it is best to remind all personnel that such calls for address verification should be referred to one person who can weed out these scams.
