Becky McKay of the Texas A&M Medical Sciences Library is making CTLS
librarians an offer you can't refuse. She will come to your library to train
librarians and staff or do presentations to the general public on consumer
health on the Internet. She also offers a presentation designed for the
health professionals in your town. Cost is free. For librarians and staff,
she will come for one or more participants. For public classes, she prefers
a turnout of at least 5 to 10 patrons.

Eligible counties are Bastrop, Bell, Brazos, Burleson, Burnet, Coryell,
Falls, Grimes, Lampasas, Lee, Leon, Llano, McCulloch, McLennan, Madison,
Mason, Milam, Robertson, San Saba, Travis, Washington, and Williamson.

Here are Ms. McKay's descriptions of the classes she teaches:
MedlinePlus and Consumer Health on the Internet for Library Staff
Learn about MedlinePlus, a goldmine of good health information from the
world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine. Health
professionals and consumers alike can depend on it for information that is
authoritative and up to date, a difficult thing to find on the Web. I will
also talk about critical skills in evaluating
health information on the Internet and demonstrate some other excellent
sources of consumer health information. Handouts can be presented, as well.
1 hour CE credit or as needed.

MedlinePlus and Consumer Health on the Internet for Public Library Patrons
If you have any need for a class for your patrons, and have a group
interested in finding health information in the Internet, I can do a session
of approximately one hour teaching MedlinePlus, explaining critical skills
for evaluating health information and demonstrating some other excellent
Internet sources of health information. Handouts can be presented, as well.
1 hour or as needed.

PubMed Medline and Loansome Doc for Librarian and Health Professionals
Need some brushing up on searching PubMed Medline, the world's premier
database for professional-level health information? I will offer a brief
introduction to PubMed and show how to enroll in Loansome Doc and deliver
Edocs in order to get free medical articles delivered electronically at no
charge. Handouts can be presented, as well. 1 hour or as needed.
