This is a invitation to a workshop sponsored by the Texas State Library and
Archives Commission. Looks like a good one to attend if you can.

Dear Librarians,

The Texas State Library is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop series,
"Serving the Underserved: Teens in Your Library."  Staff in public and
school libraries who work with teens are invited to attend the all-day
workshop.  Topics to be covered include customer service to teens,
adolescent development, assets for healthy youth development, teen culture
and reading preferences, connecting with teens, and developing a plan of
service.

"Serving the Underserved: Teens in Your Library" will be presented by Pat
Muller, the Youth Services Consultant for The Library of Virginia. Ms.
Muller was president of the ALA Young Adult Library Services Association
(YALSA) in 1996 and is a YALSA Serving the Underserved Trainer.  From 1997
to 1998, she was the Youth and Young Adult Consultant for The Library
Network, a large suburban/rural library cooperative in Virginia, and she was
Supervisor of Young Adult Services at the Arlington County Central Library
from 1991 to 1997. 

The workshop will be held in five cities in April and May, 2005, and in five
cities in October, 2005.  Registration is currently available for the Spring
series, which will be held on the following dates and in the following
locations.

April 27, 2005          Park Place Regional Library, Houston
April 28, 2005          Elgin Public Library, Elgin
April 29, 2005          San Antonio Public Library, San Antonio
May 2, 2005             Palm View Branch Library, McAllen
May 3, 2005             Tyler Public Library, Tyler

The Fall workshops will be offered in Amarillo, Abilene, El Paso, Fort
Worth, and Lubbock.  The dates for the Fall series will be announced during
the summer of 2005, and registration will be available at that time.

Attendees will receive 6 hours of continuing education credit for attending
this workshop series.  The continuing education credit is SBEC eligible for
school librarians (Texas State Library Identification #500799.)
Participants who register at least two weeks prior to the workshop will
receive their CE certificates at the workshop. Participants who register
after that date will receive certificates 4-6 weeks following the workshop.


Registration is limited to 50 participants per location.  For more
