Hi, this is a wonderful opportunity for CTLS librarians to participate in
workshop using videoconference technology. The speaker is great and the
workshop and parking are free. If you have never participated in a
videoconference, I think you will enjoy the ability to share the learning
experience with librarians from all over Texas. Of course this training
counts for County Library Certification as well as your workshop

What: A Texas State Library Videoconference -- Adding Interactivity and
Accessibility to Your Library Web Site.
When: April 12, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Where: The Faulk Branch of the Austin Public Library at 800 Guadalupe,
Austin, TX in the second floor training room.
How to park: CTLS will pay your parking in the Chase Bank Building parking
garage which is across the street from the library.
Who: Texas library staff who know the basics of creating web pages and want
to take their web sites to the next level.
Class is limited to 12 attendees.

CREDIT HOURS:
Up to 2 hours of Continuing Education will be offered to participants
attending the entire workshop.

If you are interested in beginning to incorporate interactivity and
accessibility into your web site, spend a couple of hours with us.
We will be skimming the surface of the following topics:
-- Organizing your web site as it increases in size
-- Incorporating ADA accessibility into your web site
-- Creating simple forms
-- Creating a mailing list or newsletter
-- Creating a virtual tour of your library
Participants at all locations will be able to speak to the presenter.
OBJECTIVES:
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
* Discuss the importance of information architecture in relation to
larger library Web sites.
* Discuss the importance of ADA-accessible library Web sites and know
where to find further information about ADA- accessible Web design.
* Feel confident enough to incorporate simple forms into their library
Web site.
PREREQUISITES
Working knowledge of HTML.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Christine Peterson is the Library Liaison Officer for Amigos Library
Services. She provides training, support and consulting services for Amigos
member libraries in the areas of Internet and technology. From 1998 to 2000
she worked as the Manager of Continuing Education and Consulting Services at
the Texas State Library & Archives Commission, and served as the State
Library's Automation Consultant from 1992 to 1998. She has presented
numerous workshops on Web publishing and Internet resources for the library
audience. These workshops include topics such as basic HTML, HTML tables and
forms, accessible Web design, cascading style sheets and Web site
architecture and design. Chris also serves as an adjunct professor at the
University of Texas at Austin. She received both her Bachelor's Degree in
Music and Religious Studies and her MLS from Indiana University at
Bloomington.
