Thanks for the kind words, Laurie. A major reason I'm pleased that FCC
Chairman Martin appointed me is that now we are assured that library
telecom concerns will be heard at the commission. no guarantee our
views will prevail but at least they're statutorily obligated to
consider our concerns. (Here at the Bastrop Library I'm urging Mickey
DuVall to run for upcoming Commissioner vacancy at FCC but that's going
slowly; he claims he already has a full time job, though we all know
running a public library is so easy it hardly takes any time at all.)
<Ouch, who hit me?>

Seriously, since the FCC has heard my personal input for years, I hope
to use this opportunity to present wider input gathered from all Texas
librarians, so -please- send anything (problems, comments, suggestions)
to me to be included in ongoing summary reports for the FCC. Our first
meeting in DC is next Friday; if you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear
them. Comments don't have to be attributed to any specific librarians so
you can be frank in your remarks. Just send your thoughts to Gene Crick
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

A personal priority is to closely address e-rate support for libraries.
E-rate administration is currently under active review at the FCC so
this is a good time to comment on how e-rate can be improved to better
serve public libraries. And you're the experts on that. Any
suggestions are appreciated.

I'm copying Peggy, Ed and TSL to invite input from other systems as well.

thanks
gene crick
