We have the DiscChek ECO Junior here in Temple (Friends paid for it). It won't fix everything, but it has really helped. We got it from RTI (847-677-3000) for about $2700. It only handles 1 disk at a time, and you have to change out the polishing disks during the process so it's not very automated, but it's much cheaper than the automated version (more like $15,000) and seems to be working well for us. RTI tends to have sales around TLA time, so if you can wait that long, you might get a better deal.

Hope this helps!

Subject: CD/DVD polishing/cleaning/repairing machine

Does anyone in the area have a CD/DVD polishing/cleaning/repairing machine? We are thinking about buying one and would like to hear about other libraries' experience with these machines, and how they are used (regularly scheduled cleaning vs. cleaning and repair as needed). Do they justify the initial expense? Are they more (or less) expensive in terms of running costs or staff time than you had anticipated?

Thanks in advance for any information. I realize that this may have been discussed here before, but I have only just joined this list - don’t know how I managed to be here for over a year without belonging.
