Friends--

My most memorable reference question came at the Longview Public Library from a 13-year old girl who asked for "a story where a group of girls are mean to another girl but then realize they were mean and in the end they were sorry for being mean."  A close second came from a mother who asked if we provide a typing service for term papers.  You see her son was very involved in athletics and did not have time to type his papers.  (Mother was not impressed with our response).

What made these questions so remarkable was that they were specific.  Just like you appreciate a patron with a specific question we here at the CTLS office are just the same.

Speaking of specific, here's what I can help you with:
  • Services to children - collections, programs, outreach, working with schools, homeschoolers, working with organizations
  • Services to teens - the same but I'm more experienced with younger children.  I do have a 12-year-old and volunteer with teenagers so I'm not totally out of the loop.
  • Child development
  • Program and craft ideas
  • Puppetry
  • Songs (for any age) and fingerplays
  • Youth services policies
  • On-demand workshops include Storytime Basics and Reading Club Basics
  • Person to person.  I'm good at putting folks in touch with each other.  If I don't know the answer I'll either find out, ask an expert or tell you who to call.  And most of the time the person is another librarian in central Texas.
  • Collection evaluations, preferably a section at at time (fiction, non-fiction--even broken down by topic, etc.)
  • Library design and layout changes
  • I can also come to your library so please ask me to visit.  I work MWF 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and occasionally longer.
  • Sometimes I can answer a question right away and others take some digging.  Sometimes I won't know and I'll tell you.
  • Finally, I can be a sounding board or give reassurance.  There are three other talented and experienced librarians here at CTLS and we frequently collaborate on the answers to your questions.
So give me a buzz.  I look forward to helping you.
