October is Family History Month, and the Round Rock Public Library will
be sponsoring a number of special events. Please share this information
with your patrons and staff!

Wednesday, October 21, 7:00 p.m., Meeting Room D
Karen R. Thompson, who works in the Archives Division of the Williamson
County Clerk's Office and is also the author of numerous books on Round
Rock and Williamson County, will speak about "Families and Communities -
Putting Family History in its Place." Space is limited. Registration at
the Library Reference Desk or call 218-7000.

Friday, October 23, 6:00-11:00 p.m.
The grand finale of our Family History Month celebration will be a
Genealogy Lock-In at the Library. This is the second time that the Round
Rock Public Library System has held a genealogy lock-in. At the first
lock-in, in September 2003, approximately 90 family history researchers
came to study and explore the resources available at the library. The
event was so popular that people have been asking for a repeat, and
we're finally going to be able to accommodate that request!

The library will close as usual at 6:00 p.m. on Friday October 23.
Genealogists and family history researchers will be allowed back in the
library through the door to Meeting Room A off Liberty Street beginning
at 6:00 p.m., and from 6:30-11:00 p.m. the library will be open to
researchers. We will have special mini-classes and presentations on
beginning genealogy research, using library databases including Ancestry
Library Edition and Heritage Quest Online, and exploring Williamson
County history and records. Representatives from local history and
genealogy societies will also be available to help people with their
research.

The Library's Internet computers, online catalog, microfilm, and
genealogy CDs will all be available for use. Patrons will not, however,
be able to check out books or apply for a library card. Refreshments
will be available in the meeting room throughout the evening, though
patrons should bring any special items with them as the doors will be
locked at 7:00 p.m. and they will not be allowed to re-enter the library
once they have left.

If you have any questions, please contact me. Thanks!
