On the extremely important issue of having and circulating pop-up books:
Many of them are fabulous additions to the collection, both for story times
and for circulation, as long as you accept the fact that they will
eventually bite the dust. But you could buy TWO copies and use one for
in-house (displays, storytimes, white gloves only). I really think we're
being too anal about buying only things that will "last". What shape are
your Captain Underpants or Harry Potter or Goosebumps books in?? Does that
stop you from buying them?

GO ahead, you know you loved pop-ups when you were a kid, buy the book!

All--

Here is a question from a member library. Your response to the list would
be dandy.

Subject: Question about Blubonnet Book

Hi Susan,

One of the Bluebonnet Books this year is a fabulous pop-up by Robert Sabuda
titled Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs. My question is, what are other
libraries doing with it? Do I circ. it? Do I put it in reference? Do I
hold it at the desk and ask for a blood sample before someone can touch it?
(only joking, really!)

It is a beautiful book. I know the kids will love it. I would just hate to
see it damaged. I could really use some feedback on this.

Thanks so much,
