Book Clubs are Good Fun

A Workshop from Central Texas Library System, Inc.

Marble Falls Public Library

February 13, 2006

10:00am -12:00pm

If you’ve ever been part of a book club, you know all kinds of things can happen there.

People get excited about books; they reveal thoughts and feelings you secretly share.

They talk in the parking lot for an hour after the meeting is over…they bring great

food to share and strange objects related to the story.  All ages come together at times,

to explore ideas and opinions in a safe environment.

Come join us to discuss this timely topic. Call

Mary Jackson, Marble Falls branch manager,

(830) 693-3023 to reserve a spot!

·        How do you attract participants?

·        Where, when, and how long should your meetings be?

·        How do you select the right books to read?

·        Are there web sites which are helpful?

·        Should you serve food?

·        Who leads the discussion?

·        What if someone dominates the discussion?

·        Should the library try to provide books for members?

This workshop is based upon the experiences of Jennifer Patterson

at Windsor Park Branch Library, Austin. Their book club is

celebrating its 1st birthday this month.
