PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: 

Viewers of Information Literacy for the 21st Century Learner will:
- Understand the relationship between information literacy and success in
making the transition from high school to community college, especially for
at-risk students
- Understand the importance of assessment in determining information
literacy skills
- Understand the benefits of high school and college collaboration on
information literacy training 
- Be aware of a range of information literacy toolkit resources 
- Learn how to adapt toolkit resources to your environment 

Panelists will give an overview of information literacy theory and practice
with special attention to AASL and ACRL standards and identification of core
competencies. 

Panelists will stress the importance of teaching college-level skills in
high school. They will address the disconnect between high schools and
colleges in the teaching of information literacy skills and how active
assessment can help. The panel will specifically discuss the IMLS grant
project's assessment instrument--its attitudinal, multiple choice, and
constructed response questions as well as its effectiveness in field testing
in the classroom setting. 

The panel will stress the importance of collaboration between teachers and
librarians and how to develop information literacy learning resources for
at-risk students.
