Another thing that we also did that worked out well was to place the meeting room adjacent to the children’s area with a wide double-door that can open between the two.  This allows the storytime room to relate to the children’s area.  (Great for special big kids events also.)  But there is different door off the lobby that people use when they are just having regular meeting in the room.   From: Jennifer Patterson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 11, 2006 5:21 PM To: 'Laurie Mahaffey'; 'ctls-l' Subject: RE: Question: children's services   Well, at Windsor Park we had a meeting room with a capacity of about 75 persons. We had a wall of built-in cabinet/closets where supplies, puppets, seasonal books, stacks of chairs, flip chart easels, puppet stage, etc. could be stored. The room was totally flexible: good, heavy-duty folding tables, plugs everywhere, white board on one wall, carpet on the floor, blackout shades on the windows, etc. To me, this is the best setup, so that you can do storytime without disturbing everyone else. This same space can be used for other meetings too, of course.   If you try to have a “story corner” in the children’s area, it’s noisy, the children’s area gets too crowded when you have a special performance (which you will) and if you serve refreshments, they get spilled on the shelves, etc. You may have seen built-in spaces for storytime in some children’s areas (like in Llano) but I don’t really think it’s a good idea. Things change – you need as few built-ins as possible!
