-----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Christine McNew Sent: Friday, June 02, 2006 9:51 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [syscon-tx] Governor Perry Declares June 2,2006 Texas Reading Club Day The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is pleased to announce that Governor Perry has declared today, June 2, 2006, as Texas Reading Club Day. A printable copy of the declaration is available on the Texas Reading Club web site at www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/2006/index.html. A copy on parchment will be mailed to all participating Texas libraries. The text of the proclamation is as follows. ***************************************************************** State of Texas Office of the Governor Reading lights our imagination's way. Books take us along paths to other lands, to ages of yesteryear, to mystical kingdoms and pages steeped in awe and mystery. Reading expands our minds and inspires curiosity in children and adults alike, promoting inquiry and often the innovation that opens a world of possibilities. Reading skills are essential to building a foundation of academic and personal achievement, and they must be continuously fostered if we are to set our children and ourselves firmly on the path to lifelong success. Comprehensiveness should always be our goal - a goal that can be achieved by ensuring that reading is emphasized in homes, classrooms and communities across the Lone Star State. To reinforce the importance of reading, educators, librarians, booksellers and families have participated in the Texas Reading Club since 1959. This year's campaign, sponsored by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, promotes the joys of reading with the theme, "Reading: The Sport of Champions". At this time, therefore, I encourage all Texans to join me in ensuring the Texas Reading Club's success. Let us remember always that our children's success is Texas' success. Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim June 2, 2006, Texas Reading Club Day in Texas, and urge the appropriate recognition whereof. In official recognition whereof, I hereby affix my signature this 19th day of May, 2006. Rick Perry ***************************************************************** Wishing you all successful and enjoyable summers, Christine McNew Youth Services Consultant Library Development Division Texas State Library and Archives Commission PO Box 12927 Austin, TX 78711-2927 Phone: 1-800-252-9386 (Texas only) or 512-463-6623 Fax: 512-463-8800 [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ syscon-tx mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.tsl.state.tx.us/mailman/listinfo/syscon-tx
