-----Original Message----- From: Actkinson, Jeana [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2006 10:43 AM To: Young Adult Round Table Subject: [yart] Texas Teens Read Dear YART members, I would like to tell you about an exciting new program that we will be collaborating on with the Texas State Library and Archive Commission (TSLAC). Many of you who are public librarians may be familiar with the programming that TSLAC provides for younger children, but they have asked us to work with them on a new young adult summer reading club. It will include choosing a theme, nominating a poster illustrator, nominating YA librarians to create a manual, and suggesting other promotional activities that can enhance the program. While this program is primarily for public libraries, it is also available for school libraries that have summer school programs and would like to work with their local public libraries. What an opportunity for collaboration between public and school libraries! The executive board thought that this would be a wonderful opportunity for YART to be involved in this strategic statewide program and give YART members a way to serve their communities and become part of a wonderful new YART committee. So, we are asking for anyone who would like to serve on this important endeavor to contact me as soon as possible. Because much of this has to be done far in advance, we will be forming two committees to work concurrently, the 2008 and the 2009. We have not ironed out all the details as far as the length of committee membership, etc., but will be doing that soon. I am just anxious to get this off the ground and get started! Our first meeting will be in September or October. The time and location will depend on the makeup of the membership and what is convenient for most. For further information, you may go to the TSLAC website and read their proposal or contact me. http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/outcomes/ To view them, click on Contributed Examples Best Regards, Jeana Actkinson, Chair 2006-2007 Young Adult Round Table Texas Library Association [EMAIL PROTECTED] (cell) 817-929-3447 (home) 940-575-4883 (work) 940-683-4064
