The Houston Public Library is seeking exceptional applicants for our
Fountain of Youth Project!
Applicants must love children, books and libraries and have a strong
commitment to provide exceptional services to our youngest customers.
Bilingual applicants in Spanish, Chinese or Vietnamese will be given
special consideration for this program.
The program is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services
and successful candidates will receive the following:
Ø Full in-state tuition for an ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in
Library Science through the University of North Texas’ online degree program

Ø Stipend for books and expenses
Ø Paid membership to a professional organization such as Texas
Library Association (TLA), Public Library Association (PLA), and the American
Library Association (ALA) for two (2) years
Ø Paid travel to a conference (e.g. TLA, PLA, and ALA) for two (2)
years
Ø Monthly training workshop opportunities
Fountain Of Youth Scholars will be expected to do the following:
Ø Be accepted by the University of North Texas for admission by
the Spring of 2007
Ø Maintain a “B” average in all course work
Ø Complete the Youth Librarianship Program of Study
Ø Complete Graduate Academic Certificate in Youth Services
Ø Attend all Fountain of Youth required seminars, workshops,
meetings
Ø Provide all necessary documentation by stated deadlines (tuition
receipts, etc)
Ø Attend required national and state library conferences
Ø Complete and present a project related to Youth Services to the
library community by Summer 2009
Ø Complete two years of employment at Houston Public Library after
completing the Master’s of Library Science program at the School of Library and
Information Sciences at the University of North Texas

I attest that all candidate information is complete and accurate. If I
am selected to receive a scholarship, I agree to abide by the terms of the
scholarship including submission of grades following each semester and
completion of a written report to the Friends of the Houston Public Library for
a full year following graduation. I will agree to a placement within the
Houston Public Library system in the area of greatest need commensurate with my
graduate qualification for at least one full year following graduation.
I agree to work for the Houston Public Library for two full calendar
years upon completion of the Fountain of Youth Project. Upon employment with
the Houston Public Library, I agree to complete two years of full-time
employment. If this obligation is not met, I will be required to pay back
scholarships provided through this program.
