When you have limited resources--only 4 computers--it may be best to try to establish just what kind of service you will provide for all. Kids do love social networking and game--adults do too. No matter how many computers you have, there never seems to be enough to satisfy the crowd that "just cannot wait." Selecting "Reply to All" will send a message to the entire list. --------------------------------------------------------- It seems to me that a person should have to be able to work on the computer alone, reading the prompts and understanding what is happening, so "reading age" might be reasonable as a lower age for using the computer without a parent or other adults help. However, please consider that libraries should not be determining the "worthiness" of the use of information resources. It can be difficult for adults to accept that playing games by anyone is a legitimate use of the resources. But what about the adult who decides to play solitaire? Or should someone's checking an Ebay sale be less important than someone else who needs the computer to look for a job? Watch age restrictions! How about having a couple of "express computers" instead that are for 10 minutes to check email or do a quick search? You will never please everyone but the kids have a right to their time on the computers. Research has shown that game playing is actually quite useful and develops many skills. Set time limits for ALL users when someone is waiting rather than deciding that kids are second-class library users.
