The Medical Library Association (MLA) continues its engagement in the conversation and speaks to the issues in its Webcast, "Scholarly Publishing and Open Access: Straight Talk". PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: * Introduce, define, and explain significant models of scholarly publishing * Explore the impact of open access on hospital libraries, academic libraries, and authors * Discuss practical examples of new models of scholarly publishing and describe actions from both university and hospital perspectives to support new approaches WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Although this program was created with medical and research library staff in mind, the Texas State Library urges interested library staff to view the program agenda at the MLA Website (http://www.mlanet.org/education/distance_ed/scholarlypub/agenda.html) to learn more about program content and to determine whether this program might be beneficial. HOW TO ATTEND: The Texas State Library has purchased three (3) site licenses for this program for Texas library staff, in addition to a DVD archive of the program which will be available for loan through the Library Science Collection (http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/lsc/index.html) soon after the live program airs. If you are interested in attending the live event, please contact the site coordinator at your chosen location (sites are listed on the Texas State Library Website at http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/workshops/mla1/index.html) as soon as possible in order to reserve a seat as space may be limited.
