Call for Nominations to Grant Review Panel for Texas State Library and
Archives Commission Competitive Grants

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is recruiting librarians to
serve as peer review panelists to review competitive grant applications.
The grant review panel's function is to review, score, and make
recommendations for the Library Services and Technology Act competitive
grants awarded by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and
administered by the Library Development Division. Reviewers may be asked to
serve a term of three years beginning in 2008. Reviewers dedicate their time
and expertise to advance best practices in the field.

Reviewers are asked to review proposals for Texas Reads, Special Projects,
Cooperation, and Library System Grants. Special Projects and Cooperation
grants may be awarded to public or academic libraries. School libraries may
be partners in these grants.
* Texas Reads Grants provide funds for public library programs to
promote reading and literacy within local communities.
* Special Projects Grants provide funds for programs that expand
library services to all members of a library's community, targeting those
with special needs, and including literacy and/or information literacy
projects.
* Cooperation Grants provide funds for programs that promote
cooperative services for learning and access to information.
* Library System Grants provide funds to assist Texas' library systems
to plan and develop collaborative/cooperative programs with all types of
libraries in the region.
For information on the grant programs, see
<http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/funding/index.html>.

Reviewers will read and score approximately 10 grant proposals on an
individual basis, according to established criteria. Potential reviewers
should have experience or interest in grant writing or review, desire to
encourage innovative programs to enhance library services to Texans, and the
ability to devote the necessary time to complete the review process.
Experience with outcome-based evaluation is helpful. We plan to appoint 10
members: 4 from public libraries, 4 from academic libraries, 1 from a school
library, and 1 from a special library. We will look for diversity in
geography and size of library. Reviewers may be invited to one grant review
panel meeting in Austin in late May or early June. Potential reviewers must
have the support of their institution for travel, as travel costs are not
compensated.

To nominate an individual or to nominate yourself as a potential reviewer,
please send the following information to Stacey Malek, Library Development
Program Coordinator, by February 20, 2008.
        * Nominee's name, library, position, and full contact
information
* A brief statement of the nominee's qualifications

For further information, please contact Ms. Malek via email at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or via phone at
512-463-5532.
