Subject: Resource for libraries and request for assistance

Hello all -

I wanted to let everyone know that MaintainIT has recently published the
second "cookbook" for libraries in their series focused on assisting
libraries with supporting and sustaining public computing resources in their
libraries.

The publication can be found at the following URL:
http://maintainitproject.org/cookbooks

The entire publication or individual chapters can be downloaded from the
site. Topics in the second publication, titled "Recipes for a 5-Star
Library" include:
* Setting Up a Wireless Network
*How to Avoid Wireless Networking Problems
* How Much Help Should You Provide Laptop Patrons?
* Wireless Acceptable Use Policies
* PC Reservation/Time Management Software
* Print Management
* Laptop Checkout Programs

The MaintainIT project is currently at work on a third cookbook oriented
toward an audience of tech and library staff in libraries serving
25,000-100,000 people. Here is my request for assistance - if you have
suggestions for topics that you think would be helpful for this audience or
would be willing to serve as a reviewer of a draft of this cookbook, please
forward those ideas or your willingness to volunteer to me when you get a
chance (I am on the advisory committee for the project). I expect that the
cookbook is still at least a month away from draft form, so there is some
time and even if you volunteer, you may not actually be forced to do it as
we may round up enough volunteers from other libraries.

Thanks - Chris
