Pedant. The cold war states were 'Communist' in the same way the US
is 'Democratic' - in name only. The term Communism is merely a useful
label. The Soviet Union was a totalitarian regime, and 'despotic,
arbitrary censorship' is what totalitarianism can clearly lead to. This
is what the original poster was referring to.
