In 1938, at the height of the depression, union workers took over a GM
plant and occupied it for some time. They made it clear that they were
not bargaining over work for wages, but rather not destroying the plant/
& work for wages. This is extortion. They and other unions were able to
raise their wages much higher then through real bargaining afterwards.
Companies simply passed their costs on to the consumers so these higher
then otherwise justified wages were paid by both non-union an union
workers when they purchased their products. Regulations pushed by both
the owners and unions protected this situation until deregulation and
imports cut into it at about the time referenced.
How about corporate CEOs. How about Bill
