CHINA OFFERS LASER WEAPON FOR EXPORT Beijing - China The Chinese Army surplus outlet is having a bake sale. The PLA is offering their ZM-87 short-range laser weapon on the open market for export. The ZM-87 is designed to destroy U.S. night vision systems or blind enemy soldiers. The Chinese arms outlet laser sale is aimed at certain middle eastern countries as a counter-measure against night vision equipment used for combat. The ZM-87 resembles a conventional machine gun on a tripod mount with a separate power unit and sighting system. Blinding lasers are banned by several U.N. treaties. China signed the laser ban, claiming at the time they had no such weapons. The U.S. has also signed the international laser ban. Unlike China, the U.S. armed forces have declined to introduce blinding laser devices. WE HAVE NO FURTHER TERRITORIAL DEMANDS Manila - The Philippines The Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines warned America to butt out of their dispute with the Philippines over the Spratly Islands. "It's our problem," stated Ambassador Guan Dengming. "We don't want other countries to interfere." China built an intelligence intercept post on Mischief Reef, a Spratly island group claimed by the Philippines. The SIGINT base is guarded around the clock by three PLN warships, including missile armed frigates. In 1939, German Foreign Minister Von Ribbentropp issued similar decrees to western powers, warning Britain and France to stay out of the border dispute between Nazi Germany and Poland. TENSION HEADACHE The State Department - Washington D.C. On Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, the Clinton administration issued a weak protest to communist China to "avoid" actions that would increase "tensions" over the Spratly Islands. Clinton is expected to do nothing because China is currently home to some 90+ witness who fled the Chinagate investigation. The Philippines is not expected to take any military action because Washington will not back them up. LOX & EGG ROLLS Capitol Hill - Washington D.C. Two top Senators on the Senate Intelligence Committee have urged fellow members to press the White House to keep Jonathan Pollard in prison for life. According to the CIA, Pollard passed data on secret code systems to Israel and another "un-specified" nation in return for hard cold cash. FYI - The "un-specified" other nation that is CHINA. Clinton is said to be ready to release Pollard within the next week. PLAAF TAKES THE OFFENSIVE Beijing - China The PLA air force has re-focused its defensive force structure toward attack readiness. The Chinese government paper Guangming Daily said the shift was one of many changes made to implement the policy of "building the armed forces through science and technology". Other changes implemented by the PLAAF were a switch from being ready to fight regional battles under general conditions to a preparedness for advanced technology warfare. The change in tactics indicates the PLAAF is shifting to a quality force structure rather than quantity. Military analysts said the implications were dangerous, particularly in relation to Taiwan and the Spratly Islands. The report noted that Chinese modern air war doctrine will be "a combined warfare involving intensive applications of electronics, information, joint operations, firing control and high maneuvrabilty". ================================================================ 1 if by land, 2 if by sea.
