-Caveat Lector-
Fro anyone who wants a real slam-bam book AGAINST the war(s) with Iraq, I
suggest
Desert Slaughter: The Imperialist War Against Iraq
Labor Publications, Inc
ISBN 0929087-54-2
$18.95
Can be obtained from wsws.org
Now, be forewarned there's a LOT of polemically political Socialist
vocabulary (it's their book so they can do this) contained in the articles
that make up the book. It literally chronicles the days before, during and
after DS/DS, through bulletins. There is also a section that tells the
history of the region and the events and circumstances leading up to August
1990. If one can read through the political verbiage (one's own choice to
agree or disagree), it tends to bring up the OTHER side of the push toward
war. Some answers (right or wrong, politically or otherwise) can be found
therein.
Also be mindful that as I recommend the book, I endorse it ONLY from the
standpoint that it does look at the issue from another point of view, a
view that I do not necessarily, specifically, personally endorse.

: Alamaine,
:
: I couldn't remember if it were horizontal drilling or tapping into the
: pipeline. In either case, Saddam did make the effort to go through
proper
: channels. We can only second guess why Bush brushed him off, why he went
to
: the US (perhaps knowing he wouldn't get assistance??? or it may have been
a
: genuine request for help). I can't recall if he approached the UN or
not.
