-Caveat Lector- A recent post referring to website http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/9747/ and it's information alleging the real story of the JFK assassination named James Files as the shooter of JFK (at least the one who fired the fatal headshot). James Files was quoted in a lengthy "confession". In that confession he discussed some technical aspects of the shooting, including the firearm and cartridge used in the shooting. He referred to a rather esoteric type firearm and cartridge not familiar to the average sports shooter (like me). In order to verify the accuracy of File's remarks regarding his weapon, I posed his comments to some firearm experts. Here is one comment about File's weapon statements. >This is a description of the alleged JFK head shot assassination > weapon... does the description of the alleged murder weapon and >cartridge make any sense? Does the "confessor"know what he is >talking about? >Q: .Now correct me if I'm wrong...the Remington Fireball XP-100 will fire >both .221s and .222s? >A: Yes, they will... There are a number of technical errors in the "shooter's" description of the XP-100 and its ammunition, but they are not by themselves proof he is not telling the truth. It is entirely feasible that the 'shooter' would not be familiar with all the technical information an the handgun and its cartridge....I find that some excellent shooters are not too technical, yet can do some very impressive shooting. One example of the many errors: the original XP-100 ( comercial ) would fire ONLY the .221 Fireball cartridge; the .222 Remington is the parent cartridge of the .221 FB and is too long to even chamber in the factory barrel. But, the 'shooter' is at least partly correct when he says that the barrel must be replaced for the .222 cartridge. There is enough flavour of fact in what he says to convince me he may have fired an XP-100. In short, the factual errors do not completely rule him out as a candidate.
