* NATO officials say the military alliance may soon begin bombing
  operations against Yugoslav forces if violence against ethnic
  Albanians in the province of Kosovo is not stopped.
    - NATO generals are scheduled to meet with Yugoslav
      President Slobodan Milosevic today to discuss the
      ongoing violence.
    - related: Yugoslav officials yesterday ordered the head
      of the international Kosovo peace mission to leave the
      country within 48 hours.


NATIONAL

* President Clinton is scheduled to deliver the State of the Union
  address before a joint session of Congress tonight at 9 PM ET.

* Vice President Al Gore is scheduled to visit Tennessee today
  to tour areas affected by tornadoes on Sunday.
    - Federal Emergency Management Agency director James
      Lee Witt will accompany Gore.

* CNN reports that a new Justice Department investigation
  into the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968
  centers on claims by two men who claim to have evidence
  of a possible conspiracy in the matter.

* Attorneys for President Clinton say they have added three
  Democratic members of the House of Representatives to their
  impeachment defense team.
    - related: both Republican and Democratic legislators say
      it appears that witnesses will be called to appear before
      the Senate during the impeachment trial of President Clinton.
    - the trial is scheduled to resume today at 1 PM ET.

* Justice Department investigators say the search area for
  anti-abortion activist James Charles Kopp has been expanded
  to include Mexico.
    - Kopp is being sought in connection with the October
      shooting of a New York abortion provider.

* Reports say Pentagon officials will travel to China today
  for talks aimed at improving efforts to account for more
  than 8,000 Americans still missing from the Korean War.

* The Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz cites sources close to
  Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat as saying that the Palestinian
  Authority will delay its declaration of an independent state
  until December 31.

* Reports from Moscow say Russian President Boris Yeltsin's
  condition is stable.
    - Yeltsin was hospitalized Sunday for a bleeding ulcer.

* Preliminary election results in Grenada indicate that Prime
  Minister Keith Mitchell's New National Party has been
  re-elected.

* About 250 participants from 40 nations are scheduled to
  attend an international conference today on combating
  child pornography on the internet.
    - the conference is being sponsored by the U.N. child
      welfare agency UNESCO and is taking place in Paris.

* The U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Agency reports that food
  shortages in Sierra Leone have become desperate and could
  reach famine status soon in the capital city of Freetown.

* Jordan's King Hussein is scheduled to return to his country
  today from the U.S., where he has been undergoing cancer
  treatment.

* NBA: The Associated Press cites NBA sources as saying that the
  Chicago Bulls will trade Scottie Pippen to the Houston
  Rockets after the player lockout ends.
    - the Bulls will receive forward Roy Rogers and a
      second-round draft pick in exchange for Pippen.
    - the NBA lockout is expected to end either tonight or
      tomorrow morning.
