I do not believe that the governor's mansion is at Mackinaw Island
(or should it have been Mackinac Island?). I believe that it should be
in Lansing, the capital. However, when I was a child growing up in
Michigan we visited the island and my parents referred to the "Grand"
hotel there as the governor's mansion. I think this was sort of a joke
at the time (early 60s) because the hotel was owned by the Menin family
and Menin was governor at the time. This may also be the basis for Cathy
O'Brien's confusion.
