Whoa there fella'! I am not a member of the ACLU, but am considering
membership. I am also not going to be drawn into a debate about the merits of
the ACLU's position on a variety of matters because they, like all
organizations, have an agenda to promote. I would say that they definitely do
display hypocrisy about some issues, but it does not negate the tremendous
good that they do lobbying congress for protection of civil liberties,
preserving privacy rights, and preserving property rights, which are all
suffering under more governmental regulation. They also do good in filing law
suits against organizations and individuals for violating some aspects of the
constitution. I would venture to say that the case like you cite are
specifically promoted by their detractors in order to establish the (false)
premise that they are JUST in the business of suing people who pray or mention
God in school (which I'm not against since the Constitution does not prohibit
such). So, in closing, the ACLU are not "my buddies", and yes, I do believe
they have an agenda, and no, I don't support everything they do, BUT they are
doing some good things and I wanted to give people a resource for research as
well as a tool to effect change in areas that they are concerned about.
So, take it easy would you?
