On a vaguely similiar note, I read in my local paper in the last week a
disturbing article, a law is in the works that allows children as young as 9
to be permitted to hold manufacturing jobs and to be allowed to work up to 40
hours a week during the summer, and this was reported as a good thing, as if
School to Work programs aren't scary enough, now they want to eliminate the
school part altogether.

I remember as a youth being told how the 40 hour work week was such an
enlightened accomplishment, and that as technology "made life easier" that
even less time would be required to earn a living. Hasn't quite worked out
that way has it?
