Kindred

We much appreciate this list and the stringent parameters which our
dear Wes insists upon for intelligent, informed dialogue. The following
is merely an opinionated conjecture, and we run the risk of the dreaded
"off topic" warning which may come our way as a result of this posting.
That being said, the beauty of the Internet is that ya still get a
chance to say what ya gotta say in the face of the ever burgeoning
BigBrother.

We are so on the "fringe" that we run a Mac, use Netscape and have
Clarisworks as our word program; as such, we have not been hit by the
infamous "Melissa." However, "We Watch" fore "Smoke" from this "Fire"
and "Feel" that the "Truth" just might " Be Hidden WithIn" separate
"Sordid Agendas."

Least we forget, there was a lotta allegations regarding "this, that
and the other thing" surrounding that commercial jet which fell outta
the sky off the coast of New York a couple years ago. Eventually it was
revealed that a manufacturer's designer flaw was the true culprit. Yet,
not before mountains of new legislation was rushed thru congress and
enacted (fore our own protection, of course) into "anti-terrorist" laws
that still remain.
How many times has it been said that "legislation for our own
protection" must extend into the Internet/Web forum? What about the
"Blue Ribbon Campaigns" that are of a "grass root" level and intended to
keep CyberSpace Free? How likely is it that this is a "Set Up" which in
feeding on it's own fear based media/web generated emotions?
Is it possible, that the Melissa virus is an insidious plot/hoax
perpetrated by the Government behind the governments? For example,
already the "author" has been "identified" by the controversial (for our
own good) id chip/code (see how well it worked to "save us") which
should be implanted in all electronic devices for our own protection
like the new Pentium III, which, because of consumer response was
shipped "deactivated". Are we to believe the very Infrastructure of
our nation has been threatened and the danger to national security is so
huge the FBI has put all of it's field offices into the fray? They
chant, "My god, this is terrorism and we better have tighter, stricter,
codified legislation surrounding the internet because, as we can see
from this little hacker prank, we are all at risk." Afterall, "This
time, it was only servers overwhelmed with email, and a fairly benign
generation of pornographic sites list, but next time, next time..."
I suppose this just goes to show how easy it was/is to "overtake"
the system and affect millions of people worldwide. And the cry goes up
from the GeneralPublic...please, please, please protect us from those
awful nasty pervert phreaks that frequent alternative sex newsgroups and
are trying to undermine the status quo. Think of the children!
