Yesterday,
After watching one the most overrated movies
of all time: LOTR2 . I had a meal followed by a walk
with my companion. The subject turned to a mutual
friend who recently joined the Jehovah's Witnesses.
I spoke to her about 'his' take on their belief on the earth's age
and other subjects, ranging from evolution to dinosaurs. I
had expected our friend to give a wide eyed repetition of the
party line I hear from the average door bell ringer, who struggles
to comprehend the pamphlet he is handing out. But our friend's
understanding of these matter's were slightly more up to date.
He used black box logic when religious revelation appeared to be
contradicted by reason/science. Meaning, science as well this world
was a gift from God to man, down to the fossils and geological data.
His belief was God created the world in an 'aged' state
That aside, the behavioral point we both got from the guy was he
was not very evangelistic. Nope he was down right flat.

We talked about the guy, who in many ways fits a TI(Targeted Individual)
id type. Upper middle class, African American, the type who oxymoronically
used to refer to themselves as light skinned black people. He was
raised a catholic, primary, secondary private schooling Converted to
Islam via Elijah Mohammed in the 70's 80's , now today he is a Jehovah's
Witness.
A religious journey that follows an apparently well tred path.
We talked about the guy who in many ways walked a similar road we
had followed as youthful adults. We also were aware of his TI status as was
he.
Oddly, he showed me my first Information Unlimited catalog quite a while
back.
I shook my head in amazement. He did not look brainwashed, nor like a wide
eyed Jesus Saves MC Loon. No, what was it? My companion looked at me
and said, 'He probably joined them for protection."
Protection from who? This question quickly passed, he was a Muslim. Why
should he be afraid? When my own experiences discussing MC harassment with
Nation Of Islam types came to the forefront of my mind. These guys are more
knee jerk DSM IV than the old psychiatric evangelist Kuby.
Nah, he would not have received any help from them(Nation Of Islam). Also so
much
jockeying for position and power within this group, he may even have been
seen as a
competitor.
But I was back to my question, protection from who? Over the last three
decades in
the inner city nabes, folks have watched the rise of the 'racial identity
movements'
amongst the underclass of the inner city. Contemporaneously, the same
movement is
taking place amoungst the white youths in both the burbs and the boonies.
You can spot the black side of the coin in NYC in Times Square with their
garish
dress and signs. Most people dismiss them as harmless crazies. They go by
many names
black Israelites, 12 tribes of judah, etc...
To an illiterate kid sitting in a what is charitably called a home, with
nothing to do
other than watch Springer and turning to look out of the window to see who
looks like
they have a full purse; seeing these folks paraded on TV along with their
ego inflating
rhetoric, wild dress, this is an attractive group. One that has risen to the
forefront of
the new religious cults of the illiterate and disenfranchised.
These guys make the Nation Of Islam look like the Mormons. Again, this
is also one
of the fastest growing cults amongst the inner city underclass.
They run group homes, mental health outpost(faith based of course), hot dog
stands
you name it. They also have an animus for both 'washed out looking black
people', (their
term) and working women. Could this be the who? Afterall these guys do work
the wonder
of real estate magic: quickly emptying out rent stabilized buildings.

Our friend did live in such a building, but his new landlord was a third
worlder and not from this
group. My companion said, worse. Then again I wondered about the who? Third
world landlord?
>From a country where they take a brick bat to a troublemakers head and
nothing is said or
done. Hmmm, not all that much different from some parts of the Apple as long
as it is done quietly.
Who?
I did mention sleep and harassment to him using both terms in conversation
and he did say,
he has only seen peace since becoming a witness.

I will not mention tech in this post, as it is a given. Though I am not
talking about high tech
governmental tools that point more to the egocentricity of the persecuted
than the actual
tech. What I am talking about is covert physical harassment, though a wall or
floor board
for whatever purpose the harasser choses. Pretty easily done. Very common.
So common
in fact it is causing people to join groups and associations they never would
have thought of
in the past. Nor are these wide eyed converts. I guess historically you
could draw a parallel here
with the attitude of the jews of spain who under went a fear based conversion
to christianity
way back when....Inquisition?

In the mean time old folks continue to beg for the mercy of death,
children scream of nightmares of such savage twisted sexual violence
that a gang rape seems like a romantic interlude, and Mayor Mike
and police chief Kelly keeps saying everything is all right. Just as long as
it is done quietly.
