-Caveat Lector- >From bacteria to human life and your sex life, with a lot of assumptions about me thrown in. Quite a stretch.
To step back a bit. It really doesn't matter what you personally agree to, that is unless you are Supremo Number One Dictator and Total Controller of the World, which I know you are not and which title you've never taken on. It really is about how a community's mindset is being formed. Abortion promotion has created a mindset which allows individuals in a community to think it is quite alright to destroy human life for the benefit of the community. I am talking here of the community majority, even though they agree with certain qualifications. Without benefit of any kind of public discussion, by emotional propaganda, the right to end human life is a fait accompli. From your emotional defense of the right to end a human life, I presume you have never looked at the arguments from both sides. What is to stop the taking of human life for the convenience of those who feel the need, other material need? Abortion to save the life of the mother is extremely rare in this day of medical ability. Abortion takes place for some material need on the part of the parents involved. Respect for human life is a very subtle thing. Without a community penalty for the taking of human life, for some it is very easy to end a human life. To extend this a bit as you have, that is exactly how the mass killers out of the Palestinian community justify the taking of Israel lives...for material need. History gives us many other examples of those who believe it is alright to take human life for their own material needs. >From your postings, I know we do not agree on the value of religion to set standards such as the right to take a human life only in self-defense. For me this excludes the death penalty if a sentence, pending a successful challenge in the courts, is for life. Should Israelis kill to take over the businesses and personal property of others, they should be condemned. Where they have valid reason for the community's self-defense, they are justified if no other way can be found such as jailings. -----Original Message----- From: Conspiracy Theory Research List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of thew Sent: Sunday, January 26, 2003 9:45 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [CTRL] Read This WHITEHOUSE.ORG Article IMMEDIATELY! -Caveat Lector- Actually, I've been around hospitals my whole life. I know of their strengths and weaknesses. But as you say, that really is not the issue - it is the value of life, yes, and also if your life is your own or not. Is all life equally valuable? You say human life, because I assume you don't mind the killing of rats, mosquito's and disease causing bacteria. So the first arbitrary line between life that is valuable and life that is not has been drawn. I also assume you don't mind the killing of cows and chickens, et. al., for food and clothing and whatever. So we move up the chain, and draw the line higher. So if my assumptions are correct it is OK to kill life as long as it serves humans. Let's see if you are willing to draw the line higher... How do you feel about the killing of convicted murderer's, child rapists, etc? How about the killing of the "enemy?" You know - like if someone builds bombs for suicide bombers to use in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv?, Or if soldiers from across a border show up with guns and start killing innocents, you and your family, etc. I suspect you are not against the killing of such people. So the arbitrary line of which life is valuable has shot up further, even beyond the line imposed by being a member of our species. E.G. You may feel that the life of a leading member of Hamas who is dedicated to killing others has less value than , say, that of a rabbi who teaches children. So - again these are assumptions on my part - you do not feel that ALL human life is equally valued, and to be protected from death. So then it becomes a matter of opinion, and political stance, who's life is so valuable, and who's is not. So - to me - I draw that arbitrary line where it allows non-viable fetuses to be killed, as less valuable than the mothers who bear them. It allows those who are sick and in pain to end their lives if they wish. Why do I draw the line where I do? Because to me my belief in freedom for the individual includes the concept that we own our own bodies. That the State does not have the right to restrict what I do with my own body, which includes what foods or chemicals I ingest, who I have sex with (and whether or not I charge the for it), whether or not I bring a fetus to term, and the right to die at a time of my own choosing. But - that's just me - you mileage my vary. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace.
