We have a Media Cartel and a government which has a monopoly on education. It has been this way for over 100 years. In this area they had an environmental awareness program. The children were given placemat sized sheets of paper on which the painted their environmental messages. The placemats were then used in the local restaurant. One little kid had the message: "If you kill a tree we will all die." The picture he painted showed a woodsman wielding an axe to cut down a tree. His teacher must have been of the same mind to select it for the restaurant. If the landowners were allowed to grow hemp, we wouldn't need all of the trees for housing, nor many other things. Hemp makes better paper, better clothing, and could even make better housing. It might also put a few monopolists out of business. Why are some people prohibited from building warm housing out of compressed straw bales?
