Webfairy's holograms

Some exotic theories have flourished, which violate basic principles of physics, witness accounts or evidences that can be seen on the archived pictures. The first example doesn't relate to the pentagon crash but to the WTC attacks. A web site is published and promoted on discussion lists by a person who signs "The Webfairy" (her real name is Rosalee Garble).
She bought a 150 $ software ("ImageLizard") which has a function of resolution enhancement of pictures by a so called "genuine fractal algorithm". It's an algorithm which aims at make some smoothenings, to make the resolution enhanced images more pleasant to the eye than traditionnally resolution enhanced images which become fuzzy in the enlargment process. The main feature of this type of algorithm is to try to find connex (contiguous) areas in the image, characterized by a certain spectral invariant. For example this type of software will detect correctly the kilt of a scottish in the middle of a group of persons, will analyse it's visual texture, and will show with without fuzzyness when enlarged. Conversely, an object which is in the same image but doesn't have a size (in pixels) large enough to allow the software to find some regular pattern due to it's industrial origin (for example the windows rows on a plane's side), will be rendered in an odd way. The three images below show the mode of operation of this type of algorithm.
The first image (left) is the original one. A building and what seems to be one of the planes which flies towards the World Trade Center are clearly visible, though the plane is fuzzy and difficult to recognize. The second image is a resolution enhancement with a traditionnal algorithm. The high spacial frequency being lost, some fuzzyfication appears. The third image is a resolution enhancement by the fractal software that Webfairy has sent on mailing list, asking "what is this"? My answer was "this is Nessie, the monster of the Loch Ness, who has learnt how to fly". Note how the building's side and face, which shows regular visual patterns, are well enhanced by the software and how the image interpretation is fooled by the juxtaposition of this clear view of a building and the sharp edged object which is just close to it.
Webfairy proposes a theory according to which the planes which have struck the WTC towers are not real but sort of holograms, made by a secret military technology. These holograms would have allowed to mask the real objects which attacked the towers: missiles. The two following pictures, extracted from this web site show the plane entering the second tower and an object, said to be "a missile" exiting.
Having some exchanges on a diffusion list with her, I argued that what can be seen on the "exit" image, extracted from a "mpeg" coded movie (i.e. degraded by a cosine transform), and then processed by a "genuine fractal resolution enhancement algorithm" is a visual artefact, or that actual technology doesn't allow to create such large holograms in daylight on the front of a tower in such a way that they are visible from all directions and were filmed by cameras. But such a logical discussion was impossible (arguments like "David Copperfield can do it") and turned to a dialectic of insults, accusations of being a disinformation agent, ... which is a field where I prefer leaving the last word to the adversary.
Rosalee (Webfairy) Garble is somehow representative of some people, who are perfectly ignorant in the domain where investigations must be done to understand what happened on Septembre 11 (here optics and image processing), and who don't hesitate to publish the first idea that they get without the least critical sense. This rather tough grany, who has bet that she would get the heads of the bushies aligned on her kitchen dresser, doesn't hesitate for it to make a revolution in optics with her hypotheses of giant hologram which would have been visible in the sky of New York on 9/11, to the point that, if she was right, she could compete for the Nobel prize on physics.
Which is indeed more surprizing is the spreading that this type of ideas can have, particularly in the Internet resonance room. Indeed, it can be admitted that a good principle of democracy is that any idea must be allowed to be expressed, even if it is, from the more general point of view, completely lunatic: the Brits have invented this principle with "Hide Park Corner", where anybody can come, stand on a chair or any standstill, and speak to whoever wants to listen to him. But when such ideas can so easily be refuted and they however spread in such a large way, we are no longer in the domain of rational discussion but in the domain of rumors. Rumors, sociologists have demonstrated it, escape any rationality.
It's very surprising that such analyses, though they are openly in contradiction with principles well known by any professionnals of a domain, for example here optics, are taken by people or group of people, apparently serious, who comment and disgress about them on their web sites, pretending themselves be scientists. It is unbelievable to see those people quote, approve, promote, an hypothese based on the fact that it is possible to show, in daylight, to the eyes of tenths of thousands of persons, in front of photo and tv cameras, holograms of objects of more than 120 ft spanning, moreover moving at high speed, and without the least quote of an academic or industrial work on the subject.
Evidently, it's easy to say "those technologies are military, i.e. secret". The step is not so large to make in order to conclude that the 9/11 attack has been perpetrated by the ETs.
This being said, Rosalie (Webfairy) Garble has created a web site which is a good source of images and videos for all person interested in the events of 9/11. She has done a good job of organization and archiving. Taking some distance with her analyses and being careful with the use of images made by her "fractal resolution enhancement" software, it will be possible to find useful data there.
A complete analysis and discussion of Webfairy's theory has been put on line by Eric Salter. In case of doubt about this particular point of the 9/11 attack, it will be worth seing his web site for more information.
