COX REPORT BOMBSHELL: UNCLASSIFIED VERSION SAYS CHINA STOLE 'CROWN JEWELS
OF OUR NUCLEAR ARSENAL'
Coming in a few weeks, The Cox Report. Running about 700 pages, with 12
chapters and 38 recommendations, the findings of a high-profile
congressional committee's investigation into Chinese spying in America
concludes not only that China stole "the crown jewels of our nuclear
arsenal" during the last 20 years but that the espionage "continues to this
very day."
NY TIMES reporter Jeff Gerth has been fed and moves an exclusive in
Wednesday editions:
"A scientist suspected of spying for China improperly transferred huge
amounts of secret data from a computer system at a government laboratory,
compromising virtually every nuclear weapon in the United States arsenal."
Gerth breaks: "The data -- millions of lines of computer code that
approximate how this country's atomic warheads work -- were downloaded
from a computer system at the Los Alamos, N.M., weapons lab that is open
only to those with top-level security clearances... Lee then transferred
the files to a widely accessible computer network at the lab, where they
were stored under other file names."

Cox tells Wednesday's LOS ANGELES TIMES that theft of secrets from
America's nuclear weapons laboratories relied on a network of Chinese
agents specifically tasked to help China's military modernization efforts.
"It involves many people, many of whom we have yet to meet," Cox tells the
paper.
Cox says that visits "by hundreds of Chinese scientists and other officials
to the Los Alamos National Laboratory and other nuclear weapons facilities
each year provided a cover for Chinese spy handlers."
But in addition to gathering sensitive information at Los Alamos, spies
working for the People's Republic of China obtained classified U.S. nuclear
weapons information at four other American laboratories, reports Rebecca
Carr in fresh editions of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION.
Cox declined to identify the labs.
But even thought the report was unanimously approved by its five Republican
and four Democratic members in late December -- political fireworks have
now erupted.
Rep. Norm Dicks of Washington, the committee's top-ranking Democrat,
disputes Cox's account.
"We didn't interview any of these spies," he tells reports.

IN PRESS RELEASES, NBC AND CNN CELEBRATE AUDIENCE SURGE DURING MASSACRE!
Late on Tuesday NBC spokeswoman Barbara Levin broke out the digital
champagne and poured a press release on the wires celebrating
dramatic audience increases for NBC at the height of last week's school
slaughter.
"As the nation focused on the school shooting tragedy in Littleton,
Colorado... NIGHTLY NEWS posted double digit viewer growth in both total
viewers and homes," bragged Levin in a press release issued on AP NEWS
EXPRESS.
MSNBC followed the example and issued its own shocking press release
claiming viewership records had been set during the bloodbath.
"MSNBC's total day households grew an impressive 88% to a .5/259,000,"
declared MSNBC in a press release.
"MSNBC's broadcast of the NEWS WITH BRIAN WILLIAMS rocketed 105%" during
the slaughter.
The press release continued: "MSNBC shattered its previous peak
quarter-hour record, scoring a 4.2/2,018,000 households during John
Gibson's interview with a Columbine High School student."
Not to be out done, Atlanta was also busy celebrating its increased
viewership with a press release that claimed dramatic gains.
"CNN's key demo more than doubles," noted CNN in a release.
Ted Turner's media relations office announced: "On April 20, 1999, the
network's highest-rated day of the year to date, CNN/U.S. posted
total-day increases of 425 percent in rating and 409 percent in delivery,
averaging a 2.1 rating and delivering 1.6 million homes. The
network's delivery among adults 25-54 also increased by 731 percent..."
...if only the shooting would never end.

REPORT: KILLER REJECTED BY MARINES DAYS BEFORE SHOOTING; MEDICAL CONDITION
KEPT STUDENT OUT OF CORPS
Columbine High killer Eric Harris had hoped to join the Marines but he was
on psychiatric medication, according to published reports out of Littleton
on Tuesday evening.
Harris was recruited as part of a telephone canvass and did well at a
preliminary interview, but he was nixed after a meeting at his home April
15 -- just days before he went on a wild rampage -- after his parents
"divulged a medical factor."
CAUGHT ON TAPE
Jefferson County Sheriff John Stone now says that a school surveillance
camera captured "the entire carnage" in the cafeteria of last week's
shooting.
The footage shows Klebold and Harris hurling homemade bombs and the two
open firing on students. The tapes have been sent to FBI lab in Quantico,
Va., to be analyzed frame-by-frame.

HILLARY: IT'S TIME FOR EACH OF US TO SAY 'ENOUGH'
"Too many TV shows, movies, songs and Internet sites romanticize and
glorify violence," First Lady Hillary Clinton writes an editorial set for
release on Wednesday.
"In a world that can feel overwhelming and out of control," Mrs. Clinton
writes, "children need help managing their anger, resolving their conflicts
and solving their problems with words instead of weapons."
"First, we must acknowledge that too many of our children are growing up
alone. Of course, parents have the primary responsibility for raising safe,
healthy and happy children, but we all must be involved. Teachers and
counselors, police officers and coaches, religious leaders and even elected
officials all have a role to play... How many more funerals of students
and teachers do we have to watch? It's time for our national leaders to act.
It's time for each of us to say, 'Enough.'"

MEL TO COME OUT SWINGING FOR AMERICA

Actor Mel Gibson is set to come out swinging for American ideals in a movie
that begins production later this Summer. Gibson is set to star
in the story about the American Revolutionary War tentatively titled THE
PATRIOT. Gibson, who took Oscars a few years back with his BRAVEHEART,
plays the role of a farmer who takes up arms against the British when the
fighting reached his town. In the dramatic role, Gibson hopes to teach a
new generation about the struggle for U.S independence. No U.N. helmets
worn here, but, ironically, the movie is being produced by Japan's SONY.
