-Caveat Lector- Begin forwarded message: From: Scheck Richard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: August 10, 2006 4:03:31 PM PDT To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: A Guide for the Perplexed:  A Future Filled with Love                                                                          Menlo Park California                                                                       August 10, 2006                                             A Guide For the Perplexed:                                          A Future Filled with Love                                              by Richard Scheck                      As extremism intensifies and the virus of violence contineus to spread, ordinary folks become increasingly pushed to choose sides in the battle for control of the planet.   For those who are inclined to say, "a pox on both your houses," efforts at moderation become more difficult as the momentum towards total war accelerates.   Years ago, Mathew Arnold warned us about the clash of "ignorant armies" who struggle to transform the blood-soaked "holy land" into their own version of eden or mecca to be ruled by the promised messiah of their various religious texts.   The new crusade currently unfolding in the Middle East appears far more likely to produce Arnold's slouching beast, "beckoning towards Bethlehem to be born," than a more loving and inspiring entity some would prefer.   This dramatic confrontation of civilizations is motivated by different biblical imperatives and fundamentalist perspectives in which opposing groups of true believers think they are right!   Those who feel like helpless spectators seek answers for guidance in dealing with the chaos and confusion that swirl around us.   In the face of overt lies, disinformation, and distorted statements of self-serving facts by both sides, those in pursuit of peace must deepen their commitment to a spiritual path.   The words and actions of these individuals must reflect a more inspiring picture of possibility than the dark choices offered by the head-line grabbing combatants so eager to portray themselves as righteous purveyors of noble causes.   Finding the strength and wisdom to achieve this goal remains a daunting task as the world hurls itself towards a nuclear abyss.   It is my deepest prayer that we can meet this challenge with sufficient love and compassion to create a world in which all feel safe and welcome.   I encourage all who read this to go within and seek through prayer and meditation the energy necessary to shift us into a future filled with love.     How low will we go?
