# Aftercare and Clinical Characteristics of People With Mental Illness Who
Commit Suicide: Researchers reviewed nearly 150 patients who committed
suicide within 5 years after being discharged from a psychiatric hospital,
compared to a matched group of discharged patients who had not suicided.
Patients committing suicide were more likely on their last visit to have
been notified that either their dosages of medication would be reduced or
that they would see doctors less frequently from then on. Most suiciding
patients had been considered well at the time their dosages were reduced
