# Woodhenge found near Stonehenge. (BBC) UK archaeologists have uncovered
evidence of what they believe to be a huge wooden cousin of Stonehenge,
the famous stone circle in Wiltshire, UK. The discovery of deep holes
thought to have supported large oak poles came near another stone circle
at Avebury, just 20 miles from Stonehenge. The site has revealed human
remains, suggesting a link with burials. No crop circles were evident.

: What's your favorite ancient holy/ritual site? Do you perform human sacri-
fices there? To who/what do you sacrifice? Do the voices in your head insist
on fresh meat for the spirits? Do you sneak nibbles for yourself? Tasty???

# Thank the Stars for Carbon-Based Life. Astronomers have once again come up
with evidence that suggests the universe may be more attuned to us than we
are to the universe. In fact, we may owe our very existence to the stars.

: D'ya thank the stars that you exist? D'ya blame the stars? Whose fault are
you? Should stars be dissuaded from promoting human life? Are you worthy?

# 1999-08-10 Bacterial Agonizing. Emotions, thoughts, and diatribes oozed
across the Internet in response to last month's Scientific Correctness
Survey (#94). The question was: ARE STRICT VEGETARIANS ALLOWED TO EAT
BACTERIA? We heard from vivacious, voracious carnivores, omnivores, and
all varieties of vegetarians ranging from strict vegans to one woman who
ranted about asparagus being "morally not a vegetable." Many unkind words
were written, much moral high ground & intestinal low ground was claimed.
All told, the vote ended up at: 32% YES; 32% NO; 36% OTHER; thus settling
the matter once and for all, as do all our surveys. ###

: Are you vegan? Do you agonize over devouring bacteria, paramecia, pests,
symbiotes, other animals that may reside in/on your fodder? Are you animal,
vegetable or mineral? Would you mind being eaten? Are you better with salsa?

# Scientists get into people's heads. (U-WIRE) COLUMBIA, Mo. - Imagine being
able to look inside the human brain and see how outside stimuli affects us
as it happens. Scientists here at U. Missouri have done just that. Using a
modified motorcycle helmet woven with optical fibers placed on the scalp,
the device uses light similar to infrared to tell when neurons in the
  brain have been activated. http://news.excite.com/news/uw/990830/odd-12

: Do you want people to look into your mind? Do you want to look into the
minds of people, aliens, animals, robots, demons, deities, trumpeters, me?

@ Carl Sagan's Last Interview. (NPR) Dr. Sagan addressed the interwoven
nature of science, democracy, and spiritualism. The skepticism taught
in science is a necessary ingredient for a free society bent on finding
meaning to the universe. Specifically, this interview was strongly
related to his book The Demon-Haunted World. Some subtopics include
Roswell, New Mexico, UFOs, critical thinking and religious beliefs.
