-Caveat Lector- WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a prelude to war! ****************************************** President Queeg If it hasn’t happened yet, it’s just a matter of time. Republicans in Congress - after much huffing and puffing - will have their hats handed to them by Bill Clinton...again...on this year’s budget deal. That will be followed by a storm of press releases from the GOP establishment telling everyone what a great job Republicans have done - claims that will be believed by...well, no one. So before the President goes into full “gloat mode” once again, let’s at least revel in the one, true GOP victory this fall...the defeat of the fatally-flawed Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. That much-deserved loss sent Bill Clinton raging into orbit, accusing Republicans of everything short of having cooties. This is how the prez’ temper-tantrum was covered by Bill Sammon of the Washington Times... “On and off Capitol Hill, Republicans were taken aback by the unusually animated performance of Mr. Clinton, whom one wag likened to Captain Queeg in the movie, ‘The Caine Mutiny.’ ... Mike Collins, spokesman for the Republican National Committee, marveled at the president’s performance. ‘He came unglued,’ Mr. Collins said. ‘I’ve never seen the president this angry. I’ve never seen his rhetoric so shrill, so bitter. He is confusing his own inability to negotiate a workable treaty or to make the case for the treaty he wrote with personal animosities. He is behaving more like a petulant child than a president.’” Wouldn’t it be great if those same words could be used to describe the president’s reaction to Republicans for refusing to back down in the budget negotiations? Fat chance. *************************************************** Still...The Fight Must Go On! “One Republican says that conservatism is alive and well - and living in the GOP. Alan Keyes joined the race for the Republican presidential nomination saying he was the ‘real conservative choice. ‘This is not the time for us to abandon the decent heart of the Republican majority,’ he told supporters in Bedford, N.H. Conservatives should stay with the GOP to keep those who aren’t ‘really committed to the conservative agenda’ from winning the nomination. ‘I will not desert the party,’ Mr. Keyes said.“ - Jennifer Harper’s “Inside Politics,” 10/3/99 *********************************************** Ignorance...Or Denial? “More than a fifth of the nation’s 18- to 25-year-olds and 19 percent of those 26 and older don’t know that Al Gore is the nation’s vice president. ... So says Project Vote Smart, a nonprofit, nonpartisan public interest group that provides information for and about voters.” - Washington Times Weekly Edition, 10/3/99 ******************************************************** Your Representatives At Work...Sort Of “After analyzing public records referring to members of Congress, the online news service Capitol Hill Blue revealed in September that 29 current members have been accused of spousal abuse and 19 of writing bad checks, and that 71 have bad credit reports and 117 members have been involved in two or more bankrupt businesses. Included also are seven arrests for fraud, 14 for drug-related charges, eight for shoplifting and three for assault. Also, just in 1998, 84 members were stopped on suspicion of drunk driving but were released when they claimed constitutional immunity.” - Chuck Shepherd’s “News of the Weird,” ********************************************************** Watch Out Mining - The Tax Man Cometh “Much of the attention so far on the presidential race in Nevada has focused on Texas Gov. George Bush's: a) anti-gaming sentiments; b) silence on nuclear waste; and c) his visits to just about every state except Nevada. All great fodder for the Democrats. But now, Vice President Al Gore has given the GOP reason to cheer. According to news reports, Gore proposes to spend $2 billion over 10 years to combat sprawl by setting aside land for parks and other measures. Where would the money come from? A tax on mining. Now this might not have much resonance in Southern Nevada, but in the rest of the state that might be a big deal.” - Pundit Jon Ralston, Nevada e-Briefing, 11/15/99 ************************************************ Help Spread the Word If you know someone who does not receive our FREE GOP News & Views briefings, send their e-mail address to [EMAIL PROTECTED] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Published by: Nevada Republican Liberty Caucus “The Conscience of the Republican Party” Chuck Muth, Chairman **COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U.
