A short while ago, I touted the possibility of an open-seat congressional
contest in western Pennsylvania (the 4th District) between state Sen. Melissa
Hart and Pittsburgh Steelers scion Jim Rooney.
Alas, it won't occur.
Rooney has decided not to make the race.
Democrats claim they have two heavyweights anyhow: Lawrence County
prosecutor Matthew Mangino and state Rep. Terry Van Horne.
Maybe so, and this is a fundamentally Democratic (but potentially Reagan
Democratic) district, but there are few state legislators as adept as Hart.
While we're talking about Pennsylvania, why haven't I heard about a
challenger to Republican (and former Melissa Hart staffer) Phil English in
the Erie-based, likewise Democratic, 21st District?
