Moderate Republicans More Dangerous than Liberal Democrats November 19, 1999 Establishment Republicans would have us believe that it is better to vote for a moderate Republican than to vote for any Democrat. Im not so sure. For all his faults, and they are multitudinous, the one good thing that Clintons election accomplished was to awaken a large number of lethargic conservatives. Ask yourself this question: would the Republican Party have won its landslide congressional victory in 1994 if George Bush would have been reelected president in 1992? The answer is, no. What Republican victories tend to do is put people to sleep. For example, people are set on fire when a Democrat like Charles Schumer proposes more gun control. But, no one notices when a Republican like Orrin Hatch proposes the same thing. When a Democrat like Bill Clinton promotes MFN for Communist Red China, everyone hears the call to arms. When a Republican like Phil Crane promotes it, no one pays attention. When a liberal like Barney Frank supports the gay agenda, people are incensed. When a moderate like John McCain does it, no one even gets upset. When Ted Kennedy votes for partial birth abortion, everyone sees red. No one notices when Christie Todd Whitman votes the exact same way. When Al Gore suggests increasing the power and wealth of the federal department of education, conservatives scream. When George W. Bush suggests it, conservatives applaud. The truth is, the liberal agenda is more quickly advanced when moderate Republicans are in power than when liberal Democrats are in power, not because Democrats are less committed, but because the opposition is neutered. Conservatives are far less likely to oppose liberal policies when fellow Republicans are promoting them. An enemy you can identify is much less dangerous than an enemy that works from inside your own army! Americas Trojan Horse is filled with moderate Republicans. It is time for all lovers of freedom to get serious about electing constitutionalists to public office and wake up from this "any-Republican-is-better" mantra that is turning the American dream into a socialist nightmare!
