Has anyone heard anything more about this? There was a snippet and a short
film on NBC Extra tonight but the scientist interviewed said whatever it was
may have exploded into thousands of pieces and he doubted that anything would
ever be found....just doesn't sound right to me.

Meteor that passed overhead on Sunday morning

Dec. 6 - A meteor is credited with lighting up skies in parts of the
southeast early Sunday morning. But many of those who saw it thought it was
something much worse.
It was spotted over Atlanta and over Florida. It was real scary. The sky
was a blue-green color.
In Huntsville, Connie Ballew saw it on her way to work.
‘At first I thought it was a plane exploding or a ball of fire.’
Ballew said, “At first I thought it was a plane exploding or a ball of fire.”
The strange sighting looked like this one. Blue green lights with a tail
streaking through the sky around 4:20 am central time.
Ballew said, “To me it seemed like it lasted forever but it could have
only been about four or five seconds. It was like a giant comet. That’s the
only way I can describe it.”
Astronomers say what people all over the southeastern United States saw
was nothing more than a really large shooting star that burned up when it
entered the earth’s atmosphere.
Dr. Carol Strong, UAH Astronomy Professor said, “It’s fairly rare that
they are that big.”
Strong says she’s seen other meteors streaking through the sky. The
brilliant colors many witnesses describe are all part of its entry to earth
atmosphere. As it goes through the atmosphere, we see the meteor, the bright
flash. And if it survives the heat and the burning in our atmosphere it may
actually strike the earth.
Astronomers believe this was an exploding meteor and that accounts for
the fire works many reported seeing.
Meteors tend to travel from east to west. That’s probably why some people
in Georgia and Florida also reported seeing the meteor that lit up the sky
early Sunday morning.
