I say apparent because it is not definitely known that what is fleetingly
glimpsed IS the power source. I conjecture it is because of the nature of
the scene. It is the part when the ship is being pursued by the "squiddies"
the first time, and they have to power down and go dark to avoid detection.
During this process they show the ship going dark as systems are shut down
and fleetingly you see a large ball-like object which looks a LOT like the
interstellar drive in Event Horizon (thanks for coming up with the name!),
this is why I conjecture it to be the power source, since it is almost
showing it as a power source and its shutdown before the ship goes dead and
silent. The fact that Fishburne is in both movies is interesting too. Watch
that particular scene again and see if you don't come to the same conclusion.
