doctor. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/newsid_599000/599311.stm

belief system promote/prohibit contraception? Are there too many humans?

# 25 species of apes said endangered. WASHINGTON (AP) - Not one species of
primates has been lost in the past century, but now 25 species of apes,
monkeys, lemurs and other primates are imperiled and may soon disappear.
The main causes of decline of the primates are the destruction of tropical
habitat and attacks by local hunters as well as the animals' capture for
the pet trade and export for biomedical research. The most endangered
primates, according to the study, include the golden bamboo lemur in
Madagascar, the yellow-tailed woolly monkey in the tropical Andes, the
mountain gorilla in central Africa and the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey of
Vietnam. http://www.infobeat.com/stories/cgi/story.cgi?id=2563185659-171
: Are you a primate? Are you endangered? Are there too many humans? Should
"open-season" be declared for humans? Should humans' habitats be disturbed?

Clone-Zone:
# Cloned animal park plan still embryonic. The idea of an endangered
animal park in Nevada featuring a replica of Noah's Ark and scientists
trying cloning and other clever techniques to help populate the zoo
sounded fantastic and enticing to city officials in Mesquite. Good for
tourism too: http://www.sacbee.com/news/news/local02_20000110.html
: Would you visit a theme park filled with clones? Would your clone go too?
# Clone plan for extinct goat. (BBC) The last known survivor of a rare
species of Spanish mountain goat has been found dead but cloning new
animals is a real possibility. But where would we put all the clones?

# Also: Old cells give new clones:

# Scientists clone a goat:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_329000/329107.stm
: With cloning, is extinction irrelevant? Should all extinct beasts be revi-
ved? How about extinct plants, fungi, diseases, aliens? Who deserves death?
# Could the woolly mammoth be cloned? Possibly. As decades & centuries pass,
the science of cloning and the technologies that may flow from it will
affect all aspects of human life - the things that people can do, the way
we live and even, if we choose, the kinds of people we are. Those future
technologies will offer our successors a degree of control over life's
processes that will come to seem absolute. In the 21st century and beyond,
human ambition will be bound only by the laws of physics, the rules of
logic and our descendants' own sense of right and wrong. And profit/loss:

@ You've heard of math rock, but how about high energy physics rock? Les
Horribles Cernettes <http://musiclub.cern.ch/cernettes/> claim to be the
one and only high energy rock band, loved by tens of thousands of high
energy physicists worldwide. They can't be too bad; after all, they even
have a <http://asfys1.fi.uib.no/~alsaker/LHCFC/> fan club. But don't we
all? More about music at: http://www.memepool.com/Subject/Music/
: Have you mixed science with art/music lately? Is the combination deadly?
Does your science patronize specific artists/musicians? Do art/music help
your science? Should artists/musicians/scientists be genetically modified
to enhance their abilities? Should lawyers, politicos, preachers, pundits?
# A Music Industry Death Knell? (Wired) It's a brave new world for the music
industry. With this historic merger, Warner Bros. concedes the need to
adapt to the economic pressures of the Net. Not that they'll pay musicians
better: http://wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,33559,00.html?tw=wn20000111

Mega-Merger-Mania:
# And Now, For Those Other Deals. AOL tag-teams its Time Warner mega-merger
by announcing deals with everyone from GM to PBS. Not that anyone noticed.
http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,33549,00.html?tw=wn20000111
# Talkin' 'Bout that Mega Merger. The usual suspects weigh in on the AOL
Time Warner merger. Consumer groups, predictably, give it a thumbs-down.
http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,33550,00.html?tw=wn20000111
# Europe Reels in Merger's Wake. Across the pond, officials and Net execs
drool as they look at AOL-TW. Europe needs a 'wake up and a shake up.'
http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,33566,00.html?tw=wn20000111
: Will AOL buy Europe next? Will eBay buy Japan, Yahoo buy China? Who'll do
the best deal? Will your dot-com buy any major geographical regions soon??
