Actually, I believe the first use of this technology was in sportscasting.
If you watched baseball last year, you undoubtedly saw what looked like a
team logo behind homeplate. Surprise, surprise...all of a sudden that "logo"
transmogrified into a graphic reporting the speed of the pitcher's delivery.
And a couple of innings later it reinvented itself as an ad for <whatever>.
In football, CBS (hmm) has been inserting computer-generated lines on the
screen to make the first down line actually visible for the first time in
the history of the sport. Did CBS News decide to take a leaf from CBS
Sports's book? The Shadow knows... But how long before we see those
apparitions of Diana and Elvis in laser-driven apotheosis over the next
battlefield?
