The quick of it is that the Masons as we know them grew out of a fraternity of priests that stashed some "articles" in caverns on the Temple Mount and other spots in Israel. They passed the story on father to son. Out of this developed the Templars who then went to Israel retrieved some of these "items" and returned some to a reliquary in Scotland. The Templars were suppressed, killed and scattered by King Phil of France and the remnants created several orders in Portugal, Scotland and elsewhere. Masonry went public in 1717 with the formation of "public" lodges. One thing that had happened in the interim was that the new royal house in England was Germanic and much of the meaning of the rituals had been lost and so as the Head of Masonry the new Royal patrons changed the rituals to suite themselves. Along came others, such as Confederate General Albert Pike from Newburyport, Massachusetts�home of much of Boston area's opium trade. Well, old Al, said ya know this is a bunch of gobble-dee-gook and changed it again. "Gen." Pike happened to be into "enlightened" lucerfarian doctrine at the time. And He proceeded to help establish the 33' as the pinnacle international group in Masonry. He is the only Confederate General with his own statute in our nation's capitol city. There was also some interesting, French-Scottish connects and ya got Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobins and ya got the Russians . . . And then ya have ol' Adam Weishaupt and his Illuminati, which was infiltrating Masonry in the eighteenth century. So the are quite the cast of characters. Anytime you have secrecy and pyramidal filial organizations you have huge advantages for "conspiracy and collusion." Also I would reccomed the site below for some understanding of how "progressivism" was "hijacked" by Masons. Not saying all change is bad nor all Mason's bad or evil. But that the organization has been used in historical for the furtherence of business and civil affairs is a fact. I am sure as to whether that "power" has been used to the ill or good is in the eye of many beholders. Personally, I have no wish to have such secret organizations within civil affairs and view some of there shameless manipulations as traitorios.
