Late Monday afternoon, the conservative online journal received a threatening letter demanding that they cease posting exit data before polls close on election day. NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE has not decided whether or not they are going to post Super Tuesday's results yet. VNS is a service provided by the Associated Press, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox which provides key election day voting data to subscribers in media and political circles. "We're weighing our options. We think we're right in principle. But any lawyer who can chase Microsoft's flagship magazine from the battlefield has to be taken seriously," said NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE editor Jonah Goldberg late Monday evening. SLATE.COM received a similar warning from VNS after posting early results of the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries. SLATE.COM columnist Jack Shafer recently defended the art of releasing numbers early: "I'm not releasing the exit polls as an act of journalistic delinquency, but because I'm in business to disseminate information, not to withhold it because somebody might use it 'incorrectly' by staying home and not voting because their candidate has lost (or won). "Information wants to move. If my friends, enemies, and acquaintances in the media continue to feed me the exit poll numbers during this campaign, I'll continue to post the numbers here in real time."
