NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE WARNED NOT TO POST SUPER TUESDAY
EXIT POLLS

VOTER NEWS SERVICE has legally threatened NATIONAL REVIEW
ONLINE not to report exit polling numbers like they did last Tuesday, the
DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Late Monday afternoon, the conservative online journal received a threatening
letter demanding that they cease posting exit data before polls close on
election day.

NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE has not decided whether or not they are going
to post Super Tuesday's results yet.

VNS is a service provided by the Associated Press, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN
and Fox which provides key election day voting data to subscribers in media
and political circles.

"We're weighing our options. We think we're right in principle. But any
lawyer
who can chase Microsoft's flagship magazine from the battlefield has to be
taken seriously," said NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE editor Jonah Goldberg
late Monday evening.

SLATE.COM received a similar warning from VNS after posting early results
of the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries.

SLATE.COM columnist Jack Shafer recently defended the art of releasing
numbers early:

"I'm not releasing the exit polls as an act of journalistic delinquency, but
because I'm in business to disseminate information, not to withhold it
because somebody might use it 'incorrectly' by staying home and not voting
because their candidate has lost (or won).

"Information wants to move. If my friends, enemies, and acquaintances in the
media continue to feed me the exit poll numbers during this campaign, I'll
continue to post the numbers here in real time."

SLATE.COM'S editors have chosen not to post these numbers since South
Carolina, complying with the VOTER NEWS SERVICE request.
