The Bay of Pigs is actually the Bahia de Cochinos and was named after the
wild boars on that part of Cuba by the Spanish. It's unlikely that the US
forces used in Cuba over the years - or any of the more unsavoury elements
of the American Mafia - ever actually went there to do anything. It was
picked by the anti-Castro Cubans as an invasion site precisely because of
its out-of-the-way location. Of course the name is somewhat symbolic of
the way the island has been exploited by America but that's coincidental.
