Remember how, when the price runup first struck, we (at least in the US)
were told the following:
1) Any output increase of less than 2.5 million barrels would never suffice
to bring down retail prices,
and:
2) It would take months for any price decreases to reach the consumers.
Well, right after the OPEC deal was announced, gas prices in my area (the
Midwest US) started dropping within HOURS afterward.
This would not be possible if this were anything other than a scam.
The question is: Who's the guilty party?
All signs point to the Bush family, acting in concert with the Kuwaitis.
This has been posited by Alan Abelson of Barron's Financial Weekly, as well
as Robert Parry of The Consortium and media figures from Jay Leno to Mark
Russell to Bill Maher.
Why? To send the US economy into a tailspin just in time for the November
2000 elections, in order to boost GW Bush's chances of winning the seat his
father once held.
However, once the "Petro Plot" (as Abelson calls it) was firmly linked in
the US public mind to GW Bush, it had to be scuttled quickly: there's
nothing worse than a scam that backfires upon its creators.
