Tripp Prosecution Backfiring
Even the most vindictive Clinton defenders didn't think it was
such a hot idea to put Linda Tripp on trial for taping Monica
Lewinsky; a prosecution that had the unmistakable look of a White
House inspired vendetta against the Sexgate whistleblower.
But the case went forward anyway, right up until Friday, when
chances of winning a Tripp conviction hit a brick wall thanks to
presiding judge Diane Leisure, who tossed most of Lewinsky's
prospective testimony against Tripp out of court.
Now the Washington public interest lawfirm Judicial Watch
observes that Ms. Tripp may suddenly be in the catbird seat,
leaving the White House with the worst of both worlds:
"With the news that Linda Tripp has just 'emasculated' the
criminal case brought by Maryland prosecutor Stephen Montanarelli
based on inadmissible evidence, the tables are now turned,"
announced the legal watchdog group in a Friday press release.
Tripp has previously testified she believes first lady Hillary
Clinton sicced Maryland prosecutors on her. And a court has found
that the Clinton administration may have violated the Privacy Act
when they leaked her confidential employee file to the press.
Judicial Watch says that's the kind of evidence that could blow
the lid off the White House's Filegate cover-up, the subject of
the group's $90 million civil suit which names Hillary as a
defendant.
"The time has now come for Linda to go on the offensive, and
under the time tested principle of the Bible-do unto others as
you would have them do unto you - she must now pursue justice
against Hillary Rodham Clinton and her accomplices," said Judical
Watch Chairman Larry Klayman.
Legal experts predict that the Maryland DA will soon drop the
case against Tripp, before things get completely out of hand. In
fact, the case could easily turn into Paula Jones II if Tripp has
the stomach for it.
How so? Tripp has argued that she had no choice but to tape
Lewinsky, because the intern was pressuring her to falsely deny
under oath any knowledge of Lewinsky's affair with Clinton. That
pressure included White House threats to "destroy" her.
Should Tripp want to document the kind of pressure she was
under, her attorneys might subpoena half a dozen other women
linked to Clinton, ladies who have gone public with accounts of
death threats, break-ins and even IRS audits in the wake of their
involvement with the philanderer-in-chief.
Witnesses could include Gennifer Flowers, Kathleen Willey,
Elizabeth Ward Gracen, Dolly Kyle Browning and even Clinton rape
accuser Juanita Broaddrick, who told NewsMax.com last year that
she was followed and had her house broken into by someone who
took only her answering machine tape.
The incidents took place around the time Broaddrick was
considering going public with her explosive account of the
Clinton rape.
